The fifty-eight Class 22 B-B Type 2 Diesel-Hydraulic Locomotives were built by the North British Locomotive Co. between 1959-62. There were initial teething problems but the closure of NBL in 1962 caused a lack of spares and withdrawals started in 1967, the final one being condemed in 1971.
