Thirty-one 20-Car and seven 16-car sets were built between 1992-96, the 16-car sets were ordered to create paths from north of London to the continent but these never happened for various reasons. A number of sets were given a mid-life upgrade and were re-liveries in the e300 revised livery to match the newer Class 374/e320 units.
